five reasons i’m voting for kamala

  1. trump

with three kids, two jobs, a sleep cycle that has been erratic for twenty years and more chores than time, i don’t have the luxury to think about much. to think big thoughts, to think medium ones. it’s laundry, kids, job, trash. so the fact that kamala stands for basically nothing is something i don’t have time for. i have to be just “but trump.”

someone’ll fix the climate or not. whatever. someone’ll fix health care. immigration. cops. the economy. one day the economy’ll be so good that we’ll all have money, not because of politicians but because of … whatever else. and speaking of money, the fact that i am required to give the government money and it uses that money to turn palestinian infants into human shrapnel is no reason whatsoever to not vote for that government. it’s too big a thought.

so i’m voting for kamala and offering my thoughts to all those slaughtered infants and whatever else. because trump.

2) trump

she’s the nominee, and this isn’t a marriage, it’s just a vote. and yeah, sure, hillary was the nominee a while ago because the party rigged the primary, and trump was the nominee because the democratic party elevated him so hillary would have a chance — who didn’t see the memo? it wasn’t good — but who has the privilege to hold people accountable for turning a con artist into the president? or for making policy decisions they know will sacrifice people on the oligarchy’s altar?

not me. all i can do is vote for anything that has a d by its name. because trump.

3) trump

i used to co-host an abortion rights fundraiser. we raised a few hundred dollars for abortion rights.

let me make one thing clear about kamala: i don’t think she’ll do a single thing to improve abortion rights. i don’t think she can. no matter what she wants, it’s too easy to find a judge to kill an executive order, and the senate will be in republican hands as of january. so nothing she wants to do will make anything better. (this assumes she actually tries. we’re all still waiting for those $2,000 checks we were supposed to get after we got jon ossoff and raphael warnock elected, but who has the privilege to remember things as far back as … this presidency? (oops.))

no, the reason i’m voting for kamala on abortion is that trump will make things worse on abortion, since the house will be in democratic hands but enough democrats will peel off to pass the bill, the democratic leader will hold a vote on it and the republicans are so unified on the issues (forget how many votes kevin mccarthy had to get through to get elected speaker, and forget about mike johnson at all) that just like in the handmaid’s tale, the only thing standing in the way of america becoming gilead is a cop, and that cop is kamala.

i realize that looks like magical thinking, but trump.

4) trump

let’s talk more about the thin blue line. the absolute best opponent for a felon who’s made a career out of lying to and swindling everyone possible isn’t a socialist whose authenticity will take the south by storm and be palatable enough to the neoliberals in maryland, illinois, new york and california. it’s a cop and former prosecutor (nevermind the fact that she’ll be neither testifying nor even in a courtroom. we’re going for rhetoric here, not reality) who doesn’t plan to fix any problem trump capitalized on in his campaign during the 2016 recession.

now, some of you might counter this by moving past economic policy and focusing on the fact that a cop is supposed to uphold and support all the laws, not just the convenient ones. you might then follow with her opposition to flag burning being disqualifying. but we just got done being masked. that was a limit on our free speech, right? and we were fine with it. let’s be fine with this too. let’s be fine with her refusal to name israel when noting the fatal and building-flattening results of its bombing campaigns (including the one an american was killed in, but can we please agree to ignore that?). let’s be fine with absolutely anything she as officer/president harris feels is necessary.

let’s comply.

because trump.

5) trump

nothing about a rich, white crooked guy getting anything good is historic.

nothing about it inspires anyone.

nothing about it is historic.

but kamala?

that little girl was her.

when obama was elected, a wave of hope and inspiration swept this country. you could see it in people’s faces and gaits. we honestly believed going from enslaving people who looked like him to electing him was part of the change we needed.

we need that hope again. that inspiration again. that history, that triumph, that change.

also: roughly six in ten americans think biden didn’t beat trump fairly. how long until our country collapses because too many people think the president is fake? we need to get this done while we can. and yeah, it may mean ignoring a policy or two (the minimum wage, college affordability, health care), or maybe a crisis (genocide, climate), or whatever other stuff people are concerned about (the economy generally, immigration, government). let’s also ignore how many people who look like kamala will be limited, maimed or killed by kamala’s policies. let alllll that outside stuff be a focus for AFTER the election while we zero in on her skin color and heritage.

because otherwise? trump.
